Elderly woman takes 50 kg pet tortoise out for a walk every day
While some senior citizens may prefer cats (or rats) to keep them company in their golden years, one Changchun grandmother has opted for something a bit more her speed.
A decade ago, Hao Yulin traveled to Yunnan. There she bought a tiny tortoise that could fit in the palm of her hand, paying 900 yuan for it. She named the little guy "Su Su."
Over the past 10 years, little Su Su has done some growing and now weighs more than 50 kg. Hao, now 83 years old, still takes patient care of her pet, feeding it four oranges, an apple, an egg and a piece of bread each day. She also always takes it out for a walk in the sunshine.
For obvious reasons, Hao's neighbors have deemed her "tortoise granny."

As we saw recently, an important advantage of having a pet tortoise is that even if they escape they pose very little danger to local day cares.
